I had an acquainence mechanic (young business owner) replace the front pump seal and torque converter on my '96 9000cs (lpt). About 5k mi later, I lost all transmission function. I then took it to a saabnet indy who diagnosed the problem as being the torque converter being installed improperly. He said that because the converter was not installed properly (3 clicks not 4, for anyone who might understand the installation), the "ears" of the convertor were sheared off causing the pump in the tranny to be ruined. My question for those of you patient enough to read this is: does this make sense? The mechanic has refused to accept any responsibility and so if I want any responsibility to be found (understanding that it might be mine) I want to know that the converter was indeed not installed properly. Any words are appreciated.
