tracing down a ground fault (long) Posted by adam [Email] ![]() ![]() |
I have a ground fault somewhere that keeps blowing out my central locking and interior lights fuse. I believe the fault is in the trunk and is connected to the trunk open signal. Everytime the fuse blows the pictogram then shows that the trunk is open. If the fuse is good though then the pictogram shows the correct trunk state. If I ground the brown wire from the trunk light which is listed as ground then the pictorgram lights up showing the trunk is open.
The fuse does not blow with function such as using the lights or the power locks it tends to blow after hitting bumps leaving me to believe that the power cable for the pictogram and the ground for the lights are connecting on bumps and causing a short.
I took apart the rear hatchback meaning the carpeting and looked for fraying cables, rubbing, or insolation stripping and couldn't find any.
Before I ship it out, what's next, any likely places to check. I have no experience in tracing shorts so any help is appreciated.
