Not on a 9000... only c900s have to be in reverse to remove the key.
As for the remote start, you are probably going to have to cut wires no matter what you do *unless* you insert the connection at the ignition switch or at the starter. Unplug the right wire, and insert a pair of wires in its place.
I've never actually wired the remote start function of an alarm, but they always leave me with some questions. Obviously you are going to need a relay or something to pull down several functions - you'll have to fake a key being turned in the ignition (engaging the +30 and +54 positive feeds, for example). But aside from that, I think you're going to have to defeat the steering wheel lock, aren't you? Or can you put the key in the ignition of a running car and turn it? Regardless, the connections are going to want to be made at the ignition lock I'd guess and doing so will require some cutting.
If you've still got the factory alarm, I'd consider removing it entirely as I think the factory alarm comes with an immobiliser... You'll have to defeat that in order to get the remote start to work. Even if not, I'm betting it probably won't much like the car being started while it's armed. Dunno what effect that would have. Removing it should be simply a matter of unplugging the brain box. In doing so, you'll be left with a prime location for the new alarm brain, with many of the connections you'll be needing ready to go. I installed a pager alarm on my '86 900S, displacing the factory SaabGuard. Doing so turned a 6 hour installation into a 30 minute one. Well worth it.
