I need to keep this short, because I'm going back out.
Undid and redid everything, this time packing the pump with vaseline. Seemed to be cured of clicking. Puts belts, plastic shields, wheel back on. Click was back although I lost all confidence as to where it was coming from. Click went away.
Took car for test drive after having driven GM giant van for the past day. It would have been a joy, but the oil temp guage is not working! Aaaaah!!! While going over some bumps I saw it make the connection and the needle when up for a split second. I'm sure I either pulled the other end out, or somehow loosened some wires in the sensor. Just to confirm, I'm speculating that the little do-hicky I undid on the top of the oil pump is this sensor. True? Any advice is welcome, in case I can't find the problem right away. No big deal though I love taking those plastic covers off and was hoping to be able to do it one more time tonight!
Mr. Positive,

Seriously, thanks for the help everyone. I know I'm almost there.
