I now know hoe Evil Twin got his name !! Take a Turkey Baster and suck out some of that gearbox oil or you may blow a seal !! Use the engine oil dipstick as described . Make sur you only insert it into the gearbox filler hole so the top of the long notch in one side of the stick lines up with the top edge of the hole .
That sensor that lookes like the reversing light switch is used in certain markets that have an "upshift light" on the speedo . This light is supposed to come on at a certain RPM to tell you when to shift for maximum fuel economy . (I wonder if they had these gizmos in "Mobile Economy Run" days?)
Naturally it would be undesirable for the upshift light to come on if in 5th gear . The driver , looking for 6th would probably end up in reverse !! This switch unlike the reverse switch is normally closed unless in 5th when it opens to interrupt current to the "upshift light" .If you put an ohmeter accross the contacts you will see infinite resistance when 5th is selected and low resistance for gears 1-4 . (I don't know about reverse ).
I too have an 86 9KT and wondered about this switch .I have never been able to find any upshift light on the instrument panel . Do you have one ? Does it show one in your owners manual ?
