Firstly I should thank all kind guys on this BBS.
My Saab which is my first car is a 90 9Ks, standard Trans, 2.3L DI model, 20.5k km. I bought it in January this year by 3500 Canadian dollars. From beginning, it had following problem: central lock, remote trunk release and interior light didn¡¯t work, antenna couldn¡¯t extend out, top gasket leak a little bit. But engine run well.
There was still a problem about EDU problem, sometime the EDU light was dim or out when started the engine, minute later it¡¯s ok, sometime happened during running. It happened more in raining day.
I plan to fix all problems in summer because here is very cold.
But one day in May, the engine stalled on highway (the previous day the battery light was on when started, then it¡¯s ok.). I tried to pull over but hit by rear car. Police was called and gave me ticket for unsafe lane change (actually I¡¯d already completed lane change but I lost speed very fast). After towed to collision garage, It still couldn¡¯t start engine. Later they start it by another battery, so they said alternator might fail. It cost me CD$ 2000 to fix body and change alternator. The insurance company wouldn¡¯t pay for it (mine is one way insurance CD$ 90/month), Though I won the ticket in the local court (the police didn¡¯t come).
After that, the EUD dim problem has gone. Anybody knows why?
One day in August, I suddenly couldn¡¯t ignite my engine while the motor was working, but I just run it a few hours ago. After towed to garage, they thought fuel pump failed. Changing fuel pump cost me CD$500.
After that I try to fix every problem.
First I fix the antenna. The problem was the rod was stuck and a little bend. I took off the rod but it¡¯s hard to pull out even two big man couldn¡¯t do it. Finally I found a tool to make it. But I broke a small part of the plastic cable in the rod when pulling last part of the rod. I fixed bend area by hammer and connected the cable by tap & glue. It works though it can¡¯t extend totally.
Then the central lock. The problem was the fuse blew out immediately just when I put it on. It spent all day to check short circuit. Occasionally I found wires were broken and touched together at the swivel corner of the trunk lid. After connecting wires, central lock, remote trunk release interior light all work except the central lock switch doesn¡¯t. I tried to check the switch, but I can¡¯t depart the block between 2 front seats.
There is still something confused.
1. The fuel consumption display: The data was always keep at 4.7/100km, after running 3000km, it suddenly drop to 0.1, then 0.2, 0.3, 0.4. (Before I didn¡¯t reset it since I don¡¯t have the manual). Now after resetting, it¡¯s ok. My data is around 8.2. (2/3 highway) Is it ok?
2. Break light on pictogram is on: I checked, seems everything is ok. The confusing is when light switch is on daylight position, I turn the light switch and back or push the break pedal, it will be off. At other 2 position don¡¯t work. Now I pull out fuse of day running light and light switch at daylight position, it won¡¯t on. Other 2 position still doesn¡¯t work.
3. Voltage: When I start engine, EDU shows around 9.9V, then I push INFO button to next turn showing voltage, now it is around 13.7V. Before start engine I checked the battery is at about 12.4V. If I just turn on the key without igniting, It shows above 12V. Why?
There is something needs help:
1. How to change spark plug? I couldn¡¯t take off the DI cassette (red steel plate?). It is hard to lift it. I worry to damage sth.
2. How to change AM frequency-scanning range for my Clarion radio. My car is a European model.
3. How to take off front foglight (whole set)?
4. Does it need to take off the headlight to change corner light at the front right side because my hand can¡¯t reach them?
Hope some of my experience can give a little help to whom has same problem. Thanks for your patient to read it.
