I used to suffer in the same way but in my case the problem was solved by a new DI cassette rather than O2 sensor. I changed out the BPC vlave without improvement.
Now, with 3" JT exhaust turbo-back, I get a whole chunk of extra power at 4000 rpm and boost does not drop off at all. However, I have an automatic and the boost is restricted to about .75 bar. Withe this restriction removed (by pulling out the relevant fuse) the gauge flicks up to 1 bar and then settles back a little, depending on fuel quality, air temperature and so forth.
Frankly, I sometimes frighten myself at these boost levels and stick the fuse back in!
