Headlight relay Posted by Ari [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Headlight problem, mike H, Thu, 18 Oct 2001 06:26:49 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
There is a headlight relay in the relay box in the engine compartment. Because of heat and vibration, it's common for the solder contacts inside the relay to break, causing all sorts of strange headlight behavior.
Pull out the relay, and pop off the plastic cover. Use a magnifying glass to inspect the large solder joints on the circuit board. If you see hairline cracks (sometimes just looks like little 'ripples' in the solder), touch up the big solder contacts with a soldering iron. Leave the little solder pads alone. While you're in there, clean the relay contacts with some fine sandpaper.
If that doesn't do the trick, try and find a new headlight relay.
Good luck!
