The preheater has an effect only in the short time before the exhaust gets up to temp. The O2 sensor only works at 200C and above. The Fuel Injection gives the O2 sensor a couple of minutes to warm up. If the signal is still wrong out of the sensor, it may flag it as a fault (Check Engine Light). If the light doesn't come on, great. All it means is that in the period of 2-4 minutes after you start the car, it'll be running a little rich.
The throttle position sensor is probably set wrong. It tells the engine two things - when the throttle is at idle, and when you've really nailed the throttle (70% open or more). In later years it told a lot more about position, but not in '88. The switch should just close when your foot is off the gas.
If the switch were bad or set wrong, the car would have a bad idle with your foot off the gas. Also, if the switch were bad, if you really nail the gas, the car wouldn't accelerate quite as fast. But in the mid-range of normal driving, it doesn't do much.
Good luck!
