I bought an 88 9kt about 4 months ago... (and have had 2 other Saabs OG 900s and OG 900 turbo)

Both OG 900 had been one owner cars with records of recent rebuilds on "problem" items..

Guess what, when I bought this car I got it from a supposedly reputable used-Saab dealer in Portland, OR...

Well, I'd looked at his stuff over the years and thought he'd be solid.

Well, dealers get their cars from auctions, hardly look them over and "turn and burn" their inventory.

It's how they make a profit, not by making sure the cars are perfect when you drive them off the lot..

Anyhow, I learned a lesson: Get the car checked BEFORE you buy!

I had the car a month, blew a hose, leaked all the coolant, over-heated the head so badly (it was way out of spec) I replaced it along with a bunch of minor stuff while it was off, and guess what repairs were:

$2300 and change...

Doh!

Get your car checked! And if the owner or dealer won't let you check it, forget the car, it's not worth the risk, really!

Don't make a mistake like I did!

BTW, car runs fine now, and thanks to help on the board I was able to make more intelligent choices about what sort of repairs I finally did on the car.
