overhauling the whole engine. Had a blown head gasket at 115K (car is a 92 9KT, pics at

and while tearing it apart, I found the timing chains, gears and guides a little worn, so I went ahead and did basically the whole front of the engine as well. Oil pump gears, water pump, harmonic balancer, tensioner assembly, pulleys, timing chain and gears, balance chains and gears, cylinder head LIGHT surface and pressure tested, even did a quickie hone on the cylinders, lots of misc. stuff. Basically all new down to the short block.

Took about two months off and on (had a bout of strep that put me down for about 3 weeks) and most of the time I had the head standing up on the wide side of the head. During this time the head continually drooled oil, from the lifters (followers).

Well, to make a short story long, it's all back together and everything is great, except I've got a lifter that doesn't seem to want to pump up. Have put about 200 miles on car since reassembly, and it just keeps tapping. I did an engine flush and oil change tonite, refilled with Mobil 1 15W-50. I'd *like* to say it quieted down just a touch, but I'm pretty sure that's just wishful thinking. I'm guessing that a piece of dirt is blocking oil flow to that follower.

I guess my question is, any chance that standing the head on it's side for so long caused this? I know that all the oil gets run out, but I also know that the followers are supposed to be self bleeding. Grrr, i'm really not looking forward to having to yank the cams up and a replacing a follower or two :( If anybody has any magic tips, I'm listening, what should be going away on it's own doesn't appear to be.
