You all know what I'm talking about - especially if your car is pre-1990.
Anyway, not being in a position financially to get the job done professionally and not really having the time (3 kids) to do it myself I came up with what I think is an acceptable solution. I got part of this idea from the BB - there has been so many posts about it.
I bought a box of brass-coloured drawing pins (tacks I guess you call them in the States) for £1 and started experimenting with pinning up the headliner. Since the backing board must be some kind of hardboard I figured this might work. Wrong! The pins just kept falling out under the weight of the cloth.
So to cut a long story short I bought a tube of "super glue" (cyano-acrylate for the technically-minded) for another £1 and applied some of this to the sharp end prior to pushing the pin into the headboard. This worked!
I thought that the finished job was going to look "naff" but I was pleasantly surprised by the "Chesterfield" luxury look. One of my kids actually said it looked like one of those posh carriages!
You could even experiment with different patterns but I just stuck (pun not intended) to a basic pattern - it does not look bad at all and the glue stops the pins from coming out.
Total cost £2 (about $3 US) and labour (free) about 30 minutes.
I don't hink that's bad at all considering the way it used to look before.
Regards,
STEVE
