I have had my 97 9000cs (manual, 66k) for 8 months, problem-free, until last week; suddenly I have a few of them.
Almost certainly on the same day, I suddenly had 2 apparently unrelated (?) problems. First is that my odometer and speedometer stopped working, stone dead. Second is that the enigine started to cut out at low revs when I would slow down (engage the clutch) to come to a light, or go through an intersection. This second problem does not happen if I engage the clutch at high speed, or if I just turn on the engine to idle. Power seems ok too.
As I already had an appointment to change brake pads, I had the plugs and fan-belt changed too (this was overdue). My mechanic is no Saab expert, but his opinion was that the odometer/speedometer problem was electrical (he thinks it may be a sensor of some kind, or maybe an issue behind the dash console); and that the new plugs "might" solve the cut-out problem.
Well, alarmingly now since then these probems persist, and I have a "check engine" message on the dash. First it was constant, but after 50 or 100 miles it now flashes all the time (except maybe in low revs, when it goes back to constant). Everything else seems fine (sufficient oil, etc) - what could it be ? (some kind of oxygen sensor issue ?)
Thanks in advance for any advice ............ Gerry
