I’m not trying to pit one TSN advertiser against another, so I won’t use names, but I’m puzzled about my experience while shopping for a center muffler to go on my ‘98 CSE.
I found the prices range from $325 at the Saab dealer, then down to $140 at one TSN advertiser, and down even further to $99 at another TSN advertiser. The guy at the company offering the $99 muffler says it’s made by Starla/Walker, looks and fits just like the Saab muffler, but cautions it’s not quite up to the quality of an actual Saab muffler, and won’t last as long. The guy at the company offering the muffler for $140 seemed surprised that someone could offer a Starla for $99, as his own cost on them is $119. I suppose that with a higher purchasing volume, a company could get a better price from Starla and be able to sell cheaper, but that’s quite a difference. I wonder if there might actually be several different grades of Starla mufflers, which would explain the price difference.
Does anyone know if there are different grades of Starla mufflers? I wouldn’t mind paying the $140 if it is a better grade than the $99 one.
