I have a '95, and I think 9K Aeros in general are a huge bang for the buck, if you can find a nice one. Problems? It depends on karma. At 62k (purchased at 35k) mine has been quite reliable except for the premature replacement of the BPC solenoid, serpentine belt (@50k), and CV boots (@45k). My feeling is that in '97 the 9K had been in production for 13 years and much was done to improve reliability, performance, and comfort over this period of time. My '86 9K was a nice car, my '91 better, and this Aero the best yet. Of course, the price escalated from $22k to 32k to 42k in that time frame--so I guess they should've improved.

Mine is black/tan, which is a nice combo, IMO. Red paint oxidizes quickly and is a pain to maintain, judging from my experiences with the '91 9KT. Black isn't so bad except for the fact that it shows dust and dirt readily, and a California duster should be in your tools inventory. I have not found the black paint to transfer excessive heat into the cabin, unlike what I expected here in the Deep South, and in fact this is the coolest car I've ever owned. The heat-absorbing glass available from '95 on probably has much to do with this. So don't pass up black paint on the premise that it'll bake you in the summer, 'cause in my experience it won't.

It is a blast to drive, handles great with Firestone SZ50 tires (don't try them on snow or ice), runs like a scalded dog, and gets 25-27 mpg in city/suburban driving.
