There have been a lot of postings on this subject. The older 9Ks had defective visors. There is a joint inside the visor that just doesn't hold up for the life of the car. The joint "snaps" the swivel arm into position where it is locked. The only practical solution is to replace the visor.
If you really want to tinker, though, you can replace the entire swivel arm/joint assembly by cutting through the seam of the visor and through the polyurethane foam to remove the original part. Then you can glue (epoxy) a new swivel arm/joint into place in the old visor. I cannibalized an old Saab 900 swivel arm, it worked very well. Make sure that the joint is in the proper position to keep the visor in the "up" position before you glue it. Once it is glued into position, you will have to weld or epoxy (use two part paste that comes in a cylindrical roll) a hub onto the very end (vertical part) of the swivel arm so that the hub prevents the swivel arm from falling through the plastic mount that bolts to the roof. It's really not that hard to do, just hard to describe! My 900 swivel arm has worked like a charm for the past 4 years.
