Assuming your CD is a turbo, it will have Direct Ignition. This is a rather sensitive system and ignition problems can cause the symptoms you describe. Obviously, I don't know your car's service history, but plugs would be a prime suspect - try fitting new NGK BCPR7ES-11 (assuming a turbo). No other plug is suitable, regardless of what anyone might try to sell you. Steer clear of Bosch plugs and any platinum plugs, even those from NGK.
The next suspect is the DI cassette. Unfortunately this is rather expensive (perhaps $200 from the sponsors of this board? I don't know - I don't live in the US). The standard diagnosis procedure from the dealer is to replace with a known good one. If this fixes it, they'll fit a new one.
Another service item that might have been missed is the fuel filter. You don't say how many miles are on your CD. Fual starvation can cause this sort of problem.
Finally (i.e. I'm running out of ideas, but someone else might be able to think of something), you could have a faulty Air Mass meter. This can cause an incorrect fuel mixture that could cause this problem.
