or at least that's the nail size I seem to recall. Push them into the little holes (all at the same time), gently hold together both the left pair and the right pair, and the entire unit will shift out (or in).
Tried the coathanger deal, and the wire was too small a gauge to push the securing tabs to achieve release. Also the coathanger wire was too flexible to allow a firm hold on the unit.
Try it, you'll like it...
