If this problem onset suddenly, the IAC is a lead suspect. Checking for vacuum leaks, however should be done first no matter what.
The IAC is under the throttle body, and is easily reached by first removing the throttle cable from the quadrant, and the cable's mounting from the throttle body. Then swing the big rubber elbow away from the throttle body, be careful as that elbow will have degraded with heat and age.
Now work to remove the IAC below the throttle body. Clean it with something aggressive but safe: spray carb cleaner, or penetrating oil. If you're a serious adrenaline addict (Like danger? Like risking destroying the IAC for $150?) you could pulse some 12 volts through the two coils to see if the cleaned unit moves smoothly, but I recommend against this. (I cannot beleive I was stupid enough to try: God protects fools...)
Replace it and see what happens. If no improvement, you've just done a nice bit of Preventative Maintenance.
Takes about an hour, requires Torx driver (the one larger than 10...12?) a small screwdriver, and metric wrenches. Nothing hard, slightly frustrating, but an easy job. Again: treat old rubber parts with respect, they get grumpy in their old age.
