I've been hanging around here for some time. In fact, I just looked and the earliest of my own posts I can find is October 2000, referring to earlier posts that I think were lost when Scott changed the software he uses for the board. So, I've probably been around here for about 2 years and in that time have learned an immense amount about the 9000. I started seriously doing my own work again after a break of years around last Feb. (after my engine blew up and was replaced, I didn't see the value in keeping up the dealer service history, and I had some bad experiences with my local dealer).
Hang around here for a while and you'll soon know a lot too. (I'm from an engineering background - electronics and software, rather than mechanical engineerin - so perhaps that helps.)
Hopefully, you won't also develop a propensity to ramble...
Anyway, I'm not sure about which parameters are modified in an aftermarket ECU (but I'd like to, since that will be my next big tuning step). However, since one of the claimed advantages seems to be to improve response, I would say you could assume that it would try to keep the wastegate from opening as early as with the standard ECU, therefore shortening spool-up time, or in other words, reducing lag.
I would have thought the opening the wastegate earlier would be something that an aftermarket program would want to avoid, as it would make the turbo take longer to spool up, i.e. increase lag. So worst case, the aftermarket ECU would allow the wastegate to open *no earlier* than the standard ECU. Whether it further opening, I'm not sure.
The best advice I can give on the upper engine mounts is to replace one with poly, and see how it feels. If you feel you want to go further, then try the second one. I have seen recommendations on which one to "polify", but the rear one is easier to replace, so in your situation, I'd go with that. You might want to seek other opinions. In my case, I did the rear one simply because it was the one that was worn out. I still have the font bush, but haven't fitted it.
Replacing that one bush made the gearchange a bit more positive and also, the car just felt a little bit "tighter" (remember that the original bush was failing). The SuperFlex bush for the rear is made of softer stuff than their bush for the front. However, the front bush is not solid.
With one poly bush, I don't feel any more vibration. In general, however, it seems that North American drivers are more sensitive to noise, vibration and harshness than I am.
P.S. Are you "Bill" or "Rich"?
