I have a 919kcdt with 100k mi on the clock. I followed the instructions for the head gasket from the Townsend site. Its like 20 pages of single spaced type, but is excellent in detail. His instructions are for a 2.0l motor, but the head gasket job is pretty much the same as the 2.3 (which I have). Only significant difference is the lack of distributor on DI equipped cars, and on the 2.3l you don't even *have* to support the motor, but I did anyway. Check every hose and replace anything even a little suspect. Do the thermostat, and if you have not already, consider a cooler radiator fan thermoswitch if you live where it gets hot. And while you're at it, the front main seal and the oil pump gasket are wear items that could use replacement. Finally, use the right coolant. Mercedes or GM approved Dex-cool only.
I had the head resurfaced for the sake of it at a local machine shop for $30.
Check the timing chain guides, cam gears, and valve seats while you have it all apart. The gasket kit costs around $100 or so, and includes the head gasket, turbo gasket, exhaust and intake manifolds. Take your time and have fun!! You will have a really tight, almost new car when you're done.
Let us know if you come across anything you need help with. This board saved me thousands of $$.
Happy wrenching!
