Are you sure it's the parcel shelf? The two big noise makers in my car are the hatch and the rear seat back latches (good for squeaks).
Try taking out the parcel shelf and driving around. My bet is that the noise will remain and be louder.
To reduce hatch noise, adjust the latch striker plate (the part on the body, not the latch, which is on the hatch) so that the hatch is tight but still closes. On either side of the hatch, look for the wear strips above the tail lights. On my model, these can be adjusted, and a little light grease can be applied.
To reduce the seat back latch noise apply some grease to the mechanism and striker.
You'll never completely remove some of the creaks and pops, but on the newer body styles like yours, the rear structure has been stiffened so that there is less twisting, hence less noise.
