Noisy Engine, almost like a Diesel when cold.

My 9000 2.3i 1990 150,000 miles is making a terrible noise when I am starting it cold.
The noise can be described as a hard combustion, almost like a diesel engine. It is hard to say if it is metallic or if it comes from the combustion. The noise stays for about 5 to 10 minutes and then it goes away gradually and the engine is running fine. I have tried to change the valve lifters and the timing chain without any result. The noise can be heard all around the engine but seams to be stronger on the intake side. The noise is the same on all revs but if I rev the engine up and then close the throttle the noise goes away until the speed reach idling and then starts again. the same thing when I am engine braking, the engine is quiet until I push the accelerator again.
Is there anyone that have had a simular problem?
Remember that I already changed both valve lifters and timing chain.
I need new ideas, please help!
Anders
