Corner lights falling out

A month after purchasing my '91 9000 CD Turbo 2 years ago the left front corner lamp popped out. When I went to reinsert it I noticed that it is held in place by a plastic mounting arm with a hole for a screw that attaches to a plastic arm on body of the car (inside the engine compartment) and that one of the plastic arms was broken, making it impossible to put the light back in without several frustrating attempts of finding a way to get the light to stay in place without the benefit of the broken fragile mounting.
Now I find the same problem has happened on the right front corner lamp. My wife came back from work with the lamp taped into place (a real eyesore). Is this a common problem? Anyone have any ideas for fixes?
It may even be that for the right lamp the mounting arm on the lamp itself is broken, and thus a possible (though not palatable fix) is to replace the entire lamp, however on the right side as I recall, it's not the mounting arm on the lamp that's broken, but the mounting arm on the body of the car. Thus a new lamp wouldn't even do the trick in that case. Any thoughts?
This post is 80% inspired by a need for creative ideas to fix the issue, and 20% inspired by my need to vent on what I think is a silly design.
