With snow tires you will have enough traction. As for Ice
studded snows tires are the way to go.
The main problem people seem to have is that they drive TOO slow
and dont seem to keep up momentum while on slippery stuff then manage
to huddle together and cause bumps and grief to each other. (Thats when
I usually go by in the other lane )
The worst snow stuff is just about freezing 0oC or 32F so slippery you can not standup.
much colder -10c and you get decent traction on snow. Your saab is excellent in the snow. (I pass audi A4's and keep up with
Subarus on the way up to the hill with two snows)
I have the same 88 9KT.
2 snows are better than 'all seasons' by a factor of 5
4 snows are twice as good as 2. recently swapped the two snows
for 4 snows. All seasons tires -- what a Joke!
Also Hi-performance tires seem to get great traction on crap--I might be wrong.
As for chains; the only experience I have is with an old Merc->
test install them on dry flat ground without the snow, hill and dark
that usually accompanies 1st install. Dont get them wrapped around the CV
joints. bad news.
(best traction ever was old VW beetle with Landcruiser studded snows
a hill start without a slip with 12inches of fresh snow & I drove
clear thu a blizzard so bad that the snowplow had stopped--guess the roadway-- I sure was not going to stop--i would'nt get going again)
I digress.
