First squirk some WD-40 into the keyhole and try wiggling the key and see if it would do the trick. If not, then you could try switch the tumbler with the passenger side door. If you have a tumbler in your hatch, try use that if you have a remote release inside your 900 (I have zero knowledge about 900).

As for #3, it's clearly an intermittent problem. Given that you mentioned that if you wiggle (I presume not giggle :-) the wire assembly/connector at the door jam, it would bring control back. My guess is that the wire assembly/connector most likely has a cold solder joint or one of the wires inside the assembly is broken inside the insulation due to metal fatique with frequent door closing/opening. Try taking the assembly out and check all wires, hopefully it's one of the wires connecting from the car body to the door that is bad and not any wire inside the chassis or door. This kind of problem is quite common in older cars.
