About a week ago I rounded off the top 19mm nut which
holds the rear motor mount on. I tries vise-grips and
I tried a hacksaw, but that nut just wasn't coming off.
Enter Gene N. who responded to my pleas of frustrtion
with, "Just unbolt and remove the mounting arm - its
only 3 bolts." I pulled the bolts out today, removed
the arm and then learned the real reason why the nut
was fixed in its socket.... dirt.
There was so much grit and slime behine the oil pan
(formerly referred to as the "sandbox") that the nut
was simply immobile. I first tried cleaning the support
arm in the laundry tub but when I ran short on Simple Green
I took a leap and tried some pinesol - boy does that
stuff work well with hot water. Then after 45 minutes
with a hacksaw I managed to remove the old motor mount
from the mounting arm - today after a quick trip to
the hardware store I'll be on my way to driveability again.
