Fuel Pump Problem / Location Posted by Michael [Email] ![]() ![]() |
I have an 89 9KT Auto. The other day, I heard a humming sound (Similar to a power steering whine, or bad antenna motor) that I could not locate from the inside of the car, under the hood, or hear with the window down.
When I got out of the car, it sounded like it could be from the rear right wheel, and then it disappeared.
After hearing the humming sound, I noticed three times that on moderate acceleration from a light, the car suddenly hesitated like it was going to stall, and then surged. This happened on an expressway onramp as well. It's very disturbing, and I'm afraid to drive the car for fear of getting stranded.
I've noticed since September a gas smell in the car, and could not pinpoint the source. Wondered if it may be the gas cap... there are no leaks under the car, and it is holding gas when the car is parked...
Does it sound like it could be my Fuel Pre-Pump going bad - and making the fuel pump do all of the work?? Where are these located in my car, are they easy to check, etc?
I can't be without the car, and can't afford to kick major bucks into trying to even diagnose/repair. Hoping for simple fix/check advice...
