interesting resolution to windshield wiper problem...

'88 9kt with wipers that stop anywhere along their travel, often won't work on intermittent and low, sometimes won't work on any setting. Also, when shutting off switch mid-travel, wipers would stop mid-travel immediately.
I posted on this but got no responses, and it turned out the problem was a bad ground to the wiper motor. I had cleaned the switch, pulled the wiper relay and cleaned its contacts, and finally replaced the motor with a used one, all to no avail. BTW, the relay only controls the intermittent function, and the wipers will run without the relay. Guide to which relay is which is printed on the top of the glove compartment box. Good opportunity to pull the door buzzer relay! :-) Shift-up light relay is in there, too.
I figured the problem was downstream of the switch, as I could hear the relay clicking regularly when I had the wipers switched to intermittent, but the wipers weren't moving.
Watching the wiper motor work, I was impressed at how much it moved around, and looking at the circuit diagrams, it was clear that the motor ground was directly from the motor casing to the car chassis. Running a new ground wire to the engine immediately solved all problems!
Best regards to all!
