Having shared my problems a week ago re resistance to turning and munchy-crunchy noises when I could manage to get my car's steering wheel to turn, I thought to share the outcome.
On Monday, car went to our local authorized Saab service point (local Infiniti/Jaguar dealer who no longer carries Saab). I picked it up this afternoon, and it now steers very smoothly.
Repairs were replacement of the steering shaft assembly (approx $450!) and reassembly of the dash area. Notes from the mechanic indicated the bearings and attendant bits were chewed up, broken, beyond salvage. No problems noted with the rack or power steering pump assemblies. Labor ran about the same as parts--flat rated.
I'm wondering if anyone else has had the experience of having to replace this part of their 9k.
So I'm poorer, but feeling somewhat more secure. Motor mounts and brake work scheduled for the 3rd...
