Should be automatic Posted by Ari [Email] (#2847) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Ari) on Sun, 30 Dec 2001 22:10:24 In Reply to: Cleaning MAF Wires, ANVIL, Sun, 30 Dec 2001 18:27:15 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The mass airflow sensor has an automatic 'burn off' cycle that heats the sensor wire to about 1000 degrees C. This cycle starts 20 seconds after the enging has been switched off (4 seconds for LH 2.2), assuming that prior to switch off, the engine was warm (over 61 C) and had hit at least 2000 rpm.
This 1000 degree burn off should clean off any residue on the wire. I can't think of any contamination that would survive that temperature, yet succumb to a chemical spray.
If your burn-off cycle is working, there should be no need to clean the sensor wire. If the burn-off isn't working, then the sensor should be replaced.
Good luck!
