No, it's not easy to replace the chain in the car.... but it's doable and saves a buttload of cash by not having someone else do it. If you have a garage (it's cold outside!) and some basic metric hand tools or someone you can borrow a few items from, it will take the better part of a weekend to do and about a 12-pack of beer. The instructions on the Townsend site are a great guide.

The "rolling" idea makes great sense.... but with over 200k miles on the car it's time to take a look at everything (the other two chains I replaced now have over 300k miles on the original engines and still going strong!).

I've read alot about "rolling" the chain into the engine but found that it was almost impossible to break the chain links loose and do this.... if anyone has actually accomplished this please let me know as I'm planning on helping a friend do the timing chain replacement here when it warms up (since I'm now an "expert" on it by having done this twice).

Email me if you have any questions or want tips on the tricks I used to replace everything (just remove obvious spam block from address).
