so the later it was made in the 80's, the better. You didn't say you were only considering sedans, so I would suggest the Porche 944 as one of the better cars from the 80's. Saab 900 turbos are pretty nice too. Mazda RX7's were once rated as the most reliable sports cars and they had a convertible version. Surprisingly one of the cars I would rate as the most fun to drive is the VW GTI (83/84 are the most fun) along with the VW convertibles (84-87)which had the same engine/suspension. If you want a sedan, the 16valve Jetta from the late eighties were fun. All of the VW's can be modified to almost any level of performance, parts are easy to get and cheap. Jaguar made a few interesting cars like the XJS and some V12 sedans (bring lot of money for repairs). Merkur made a four door sedan with a V6, and they seem to be a surprising number still on the road. Puegot made a turbo that was pretty quick.
