A subwoofer definitely requires a separate dedicated amplifier of at least 150watts rms power (more power is always better).

Whatever you do, DON"T buy anything from a local retailer. If you take the time to shop around ONLINE, I guarentee you can purchase a superior sounding subwoofer/enclosure/amp combination for around $300. "Tweeter," and similar retailers are a ripoff.

I purchased an "audiobahn" 10" aluminum subwoofer (which is described at the link below under "alum10x") for $90. Yes thats right $90!!! Because they were selling last years model (which is identical) at many online retailers in a TWO FOR ONE sale ($180 for two) and I split it with my friend. You can buy one now for about $170 which is still a GREAT DEAL! This sub handles 800watts RMS and sounds UNBELIEVABLE in a small sealed cabinet. It is tight and accurate down to 20hz. Audiobahn is the way to go!

I also bought a 300w rms amp for $70 in the same kind of two for one sale.
