1985-1998 [Subscribe to Daily Digest] |
Hello again guys/gals. Just picked my car up today after getting the whole things re-painted or whatever. For those who don't know, my 1988 9000T Airflow has been in need of new paint since I bought it 4 years ago. I could live easily with it for the first 2 yrs or so, but after that the pelling and fadding, and soon the primer was begining to show. The front hood and roof were a complete mess! Today though things are different and the car looks NEW again, if there is such a thing? 1988 and new, what?
Either way I decided against the whole $1,600-2,000 paint job based on the cars age, besides I wanted to spend some money else where. So, I took it to one of those chain type paint and body places, although they only do PAINT, no body work. They paint cars from $399 to $899. I decided to get their top of the line job as its the base coat/clear coat type of jobbie. I was hesitant leaving my SAAB with such a place, but I'm pretty satisfied with the outcome. Considering they had to remount 2 ea of the Airflow panels(both pas side of vehicle)that I had in the trunk cause they had fallen off. I think the paint work went well, for the $850 I paid out the door I pleased. Now, that said there were a few problems that I needed to address to them about the work.
1. They didn't take the time/effort to tape up the thin black strip that runs along the forward edge of the front hood. The black strip that supposed to protect the front hood from small rock chips, they simply painted it along with the hood. I'm so used to seeing it there, not to mentions it serves a purpose. I can live with it though.
2. When they R&R the decals on the hatch lid, insteed of placing them bcak where they came from,(just below the spoiler)they placed them on the bottom of the hatch door(below license plate). RRRRRHHHHHH!!!!!
suprisingly there wasn't much over spray like you see on most cars that have been painted at such places like this.
The cars going back next week(once paint cures)to have those decals removed all together(think stealth looking rear end)and to have the mirrors painted to match the car. Finishing touches ya know!
For my troubles they're gonna wet sand the entire car and put on another layer of clear coat.. Gotta have that wet look!
P.S. the car is Edwardian Grey by the way
See Ya, Phil
