Yeah the tranny is a bitch - I dropped mine at twice (4-5 times if you're counting just trying to get it to mate with the flywheel)

regarding a pressure bleed for the slave - I cut a bicycle tube such that I had a double layer of rubber - this was good up to about psi - I don't know what a good technique for this operation is and I've done it a dozed times. Bicycle pump worked great for the old slave, but I couldn't generate enough pressure with the new one to bleed the line - the effects of new seals I guess.

one common error when replacing the slave cylinder is not replacing the rubber gaset that goes between the slave and the transmission - I neglected this the first time and ended up replacing this (and the slave - my rebuild was pretty crappy) when I dropped the transmission a second time. If you don't replace this seal (came with a new slave from eeuroparts - NOT with the rebuild kit though) I promise that your slave cylinder will leak indefinitely.

One other note of caution. If your car will be in disrepair for an extended amount of time be sure to properly support the engine. Mine was hanging loose in the engine bay for much of this july (fortunately Minneapolis has a good bus system) and I destroyed my lower motor mounts in the process - they were already bad - but I'm sure this summer's abuse nailed the lid on their coffin.
