as bryan mentioned, a differential is designed to compensate for the differences in rotaional speed created between the front wheels during turns. Therefore, a minor difference in diameter can't hurt anything in the short term.

However, for handling/safety reasons, its better to have symmetrical wear between left and right tires, especially for the front tires in a front wheel drive car.

If your rear tires are evenly worn, then consider moving both of them to the front, like in a standard rotation.

Otherwise, maybe it's time to invest in two (or four) new tires and an alignment.
