I think 79 had the higher compression pistons, 9.25:1. My 76 has 8.7:1 and turbos have 7.5:1. That's all off the top of my head, I could be wrong.
If you are replacing pistons, you want the higher compression ones.
My head is bored out with oversized valves. The header is matched and the intake is matched to the larger ports. I had to cut the intake gasket carefully. It helps, especially at high revs. In hindsight, I would focus on driveablility like ignition and fuel injection. A digital WUR looks interesting. Currently I'm considering adding an air/fuel gauge just to see how things are driving around. I'll need it if I go with digital WUR or EFI. Megasquirt looks interesting too, then I just change the plugs and move on.
