To just swap all the bits from a 1988-89 900. The only real fab work you are into is the e-brake, and most home mechanics can tackle that one.
(you can use any 900 to the end, but be aware that any car with ABS only has ONE rear brake line...)
As for the driveshafts, judicious juggling of parts will solve that one very easily. On the last 99 I owned, I swapped in a set of 1986-87 C900 front spindles, complete with ventilated brakes. If I recall, I simply used the 99 axles, which mated to the outer CV just fine, and the inner driver didn't change for the 4-speed. Also, I don't think you can use 900 axles in a 99 when doing any of these swaps, as the 900 axles are very slightly longer than the 99 axles, potentially causing any number of binding up issues...
