Mine's going to be built to be able to run in the new $500 road race series, 'Chump Car,' because I don't have interest in the shenanigans that accompany the LeMons series, but the spirit is still there, just more focused on the actual racing. There's awards at each race for 'Best Engineering' seen in the car.
The '93 suspension is going in for the larger brakes and bearings, and is then stronger if down the road I want to give a shot at rallying it, so I keep my options open.
I'm going to put either a C900 16V turbo engine with 2.3L crank and rods and add T5 crank sensing circuitry, or just transplant a whole 9000 B234 engine in with wiring harness and make a bulge in the hood to clear it.
Either way, I want to run T5 in it so that I can tune the ECU myself with T5Suite, so it doesn't cost me anything for the budget sheets, and I can get a wrecked 9000 here at the shop that stays in my budget too, the car only cost me $150, and has a later turbo 4-speed gearbox already.
All the glass has to come out, and I'll take out all the interior trim, so I should be able to re-coup a little money to apply towards modifications.
Road race springs will probably be (severely) chopped C900 'vert springs (as much as I hate that idea, if I have budget for proper ones I'll do that), the idea being once I have it dialed in I can just swap springs, dampers, bump stops, and remove the rear anti-roll bar to go from a tarmac setup to a dirt setup.
I'll build the cage to current stage rally spec, since there are few safer cage requirements, and I will feel better about it, and that way I can use it for pretty much whatever I want.
The best part is I'm going to be working on it here in the shop as a demo / development / show piece for customers coming in for service, to see all the other things we can do!
Best,
Drew
