Adding a little bit to Larry's note, 1969 and 1970 99s had the 1.7L Triumph motor, I think 1970s with automatic trans were the first fuel injected motors (Bosch D-Jetronic). In 1971 (I think) the Triumph motor was enlarged to 1.85L. I *think* the 1.85L was the only engine available in 1972 and at least in the USA all were injected (could be wrong on that). As Larry said, the Saab 2.0L ("B") engine was introduced in the 1973 EMS (again with D-Jetronic injection) and in 1974 all US-bound 99s had the Saab 2.0L. In 1975 the injection was changed to Bosch K-Jetronic Mechanical injection which was used through 1980. I don't think the US got any carbureted 2.0L engines.
