Terry,
It was great to see you and your car at Carlisle! Long live the 99! Sorry to hear you had trouble on the way home. I am traveling on business this week, but send me a note at home and I can check the manual this weekend to see if the EMS and Turbo have the same vacuum advance unit as I have 3-4 spare Turbo ones. The usual problem I have found with the Bosch distributors is the whole advance mechanism gets stuck due to 35 year old lubricant. One can take the whole distributor apart, clean everything with emery cloth, oil it lightly, and it's good for another 30 years. If the vacuum diaphragm has a small leak it should not matter - the engine makes a lot of vacuum. If putting a vacuum to it causes the advance to change (check with a timing light), then that part should be OK.
best,
Gary
