One of my local independent Saab mechanics has a 1975 99LE combi coupe for sale. Interior is shot but mechanicals are supposedly good. Not sure about the body...when I went to look at it we had snow and ice and it was parked between two other cars and I couldn't get a good look at it. I plan to go back this week. He has offered to put it up on a lift inside for me to do a close inspection. He has kept it in reasonably good mechanical condition he says.

It is complete with a "camper tent" option for the hatchback, which I didn't even know Saab had offered. This is supposedly still new in the box. Am I correct in assuming that the combi is the same body as every other 99 three door and the aft portion the same as the 900 three door?

My first car as a teenager was a '74 99LE that I bought in 1984. As a poor kid who couldn't afford a mechanic I worked on 99% of it myself so I got very familiar with it but that was a long time ago. I have owned 5 other Saabs including my present fun car which is a 1987 900 turbo convertible.

The asking price of this car is only $600, which seems like it could be a steal if the body is in good shape and the mechanicals are in decent shape. The interior like I said is shot but that's easy enough to fix, at least the covering of the seats. It does need to be repainted if it is ever to look good. It's currently green.

I had my heart set on a 99 turbo but my lovely spouse freaked out when she saw how much money I was going to spend to get one. So I thought maybe I could rekindle my love of 99s by getting the '75 since it is so little money and is located so close to home. Anyone have any advice, cautions, etc. when I go to look at this? As I said the seller is a local Saab indie and is very well respected.

Thanks,
Brian 'Saabpilot'
