once. Driving down the road, let out the clutch, noise of stripped rotating splines and the car doesn't move, other than coasting. I have at least a half dozen stripped out shafts in the basement, but they didn't all come from the cars I was driving. Other than trying to re-weld new splines on the shaft(I thought of doing this), there is no way to repair a stripped shaft that I know of(hmm...maybe weld the shaft to the upper gear/sprocket). The shaft always strips where it mates with the upper primary drive gear. The dealer used to sell these in the old days as a matched set for BIG dollars. Try finding a dealer that carries the parts now. I recall just replacing the shaft with a good used one I had laying around to get me back rolling again. As far as debris, there is none to speak of that I know. The shaft wears out over time, it's not a sudden failure with broken parts.
