Honeymoon is over - hot starting short?

One problem started to manifest itself on the drive home from SOC04. With the headlights on, the started wouldn't kick on. Turned off the lights, car started. At the last fill up, car didn't start with lights off. Car is very hot when this happens. Turned the key a few times, waited, tried again, and luckily it fired and car started right up. It always starts fine when cold.
So I think I have some spooky 30 year old wiring near the starter or switch or in between that when hot is too resistant and results in low voltage to the solenoid. I haven't measured yet, it's too hot down there to fiddle with a meter. I found that Bosch knows about this and has a Low Voltage Relay Kit WR-1, linked below.
Anyone have any experience with something like this?
