About out of ideas, anyone have any? Posted by 79-900t [Email] ![]() ![]() |
Alright, I am at my wits end. I've spent over 20 hours and am not further along figuring out what is wrong than when I began. My dad finished my 1976 Saab 99 EMS with k-jet ignition by installing a "new" distributer and it ran great. When I got back that weekend, it bearly ran. We spend about 16 hours that weekend trying to figure out the problem looking at the ignition and fuel system. Several times I got the car to the point where it would not run, it is running and I have been driving it to see how it is doing, no power and it stumbles on accelaration.
Fuel?
-changed fuel pump (3rd pump)
-changed fuel filter
-changed injectors (swaped from a car that runs good)
back to ignition
-changed cap and rotor (2nd time)
-adjusted points gap
-found play in the "new" distributer
-took the two distributers and made one
-set timing
back to fuel
-checked fuel pressure 150psi
-checked each individual injector for pressure to determine what pressure they are opening at, found two that were opening at 60+ psi changed out with two that opened at 50 psi
-adjusted the mixture, richer and leaner, then set back to the original setting
igniton revisited
-checked timing and adjusted slightly
-another new set of plugs
ignition seems to be working prefrectly no iragular spark on any cylinder, check with timing light while driving on each cylinder no more looking at ignition
-changed air filter
-exhuast rusted and can hear it rattle, plugged maybe? its blown out two gaskets at the exhaust mainfold that would make sense
-cut exhuast off (stupid all welded exh), it now only doesn't run very good but it is loud now too
-tacked welded exhaust back on (going to replace)
Must be a fuel problem
I am thinking its at the fuel distributer. I took apart one from an 80's saab 900, that fuel distributer is a pretty complex part that I am unsure of trying to take apart and being able to put it back togeter. There is a screen in the distributer that could be pluged. There are seveal small passages that could get pluged. There could be rust in it.
If anyone has any words of wisdome or other ideas I would really like to hear then, this one has my dad and I puzzled and we don't get stumped like this very often.
