Brently, Rowan touched on a good part of it. There are three points to go to. The door switches do indeed cause malfunction. Also, like the later 900s, the console switch needs to be in the correct position (off) for the door switches to work. The headliner switch needs to be in the correct position as well. That switch basically acts like the later 900 three position switch and controls everything. This sort of stupid wiring in Saabs is covered very well over at Karl's 99 Tips Pages websight. If your into 99's, this is the best sight. It is due for an update, but nobody knows 99's better than Karl, and he explains things very well. The most common problem I've found is that during a headliner R&R, the switch was re-installed with wires in the wrong order. It will never work right if that is the case. Also, if that either bulb is blown, the correct full functions won't work. If you have an owners manual, read carefully the switch positions. It is worded poorly and itself causes confusion. The simplicity of that overhead switch actually makes failure of it unlikely and seldom. Best of luck.
