couple of issues. usually the cluster gear inside needle bearing race is shot. possible to regrind the gear and put in a larger bearing? hard to do. also the gear roots tends to crack if but if from a non turbo then chances are better. you better get them peened. if you are lucky you will have a rebuilt unit that has teh replacement cluster with the larger big end bearing set. i like the 4 speed ratio but parts are hard to find. no more 4 speed clusters in the universe. i always wondered if you could expand the pinion housing bore to match a 89-91. the bolt pattern is the same. i just used the 4 speed case with an 86-88 gear stack. case is much beefier.
but you know what....it's gonna fail too....it was foretold. that's why i just turnd down the boost on mine. tired of chewing up transmissions.
