Early 99's up to and including '72's had those really nice stainless steel scuff plates. I wouldn't mind locating a set of those for the '73. In '73 they went to the lousy two-piece plastic trim, and used that until '76 I'm guessing. I had a 77 EMS and I'm almost a 100% sure the metal pieces I used on the '73 came from that car. I've seen pics of Brently's '79 and he has the metal scuff plates on his, so it might be right to assume they used them from 77-80. The 77-80 plates also are notched for the brake lines where they make the 90 degree turn halway down the rocker panel.
I checked out my '86 900T this morning and verified they used the metal plates. I also noticed that they were longer in the front, so if you chose to use them, they would have to be trimmed. It doesn't look like it would be too hard to trim it to fit. They are also notched halfway down the door line to accomodate the brake lines. The only other mod you might need to do is drill new screw holes, since I doubt they will line up with the other holes. No big deal...I had to do the same on the '73.
