In my quest to find new shocks for my 99 conversion, and with advice given in response to a query of mine and a couple part #'s from my mechanic, I seem to have found a source of new Bilsteins for the 99. Try eshocks.com. The front part # is BNE-1950-BE for the touring class at $47.36 ea. the rear part #s are BNE-1954-BE (touring class $47.36) and B46-0397 (hevy duty $74.75). IF you have the 900 rear axle, Konis are available #26-1087 at 95.55 ea. of course, everyone has KYBs available for the 99, but my experience has been that Bilsteins are much better, and it's well worth the 10-30 extra dollars.
In other news, my conversion now has a speedo cable. My suspicions are correct--It is quite fast. I can't wait for the new suspension, better air filter, and larger intercooler ductwork.
Finally, my mechanic, out of the goodness of his soul, gave me a 3-spoke SAAB Sport steering wheel. it's been sitting in a parts car for a while, and aside from being a bit moldy, it has a split seam between two spokes. Does anyone have experience refurbishing one of these wheels? I've re-sewn leather seats with some success, but the stitching on this may be a bit out of my league.
Thanks for all your help! Jon
